Just to let your readers know, Ontario 211 sponsors the NTEN Toronto Tech Club Meetup, once a month. This month's meetup is already at capacity but I encourage all those to join for future meetups, which are usually held near Queen and Bathurst. February's will most likely be a presentation of all the great tools nonprofits can use in the cloud.

Best,
Kelly Bergeron
Online Initiatives Manager
Ontario 211 Twitter
Ontario 211 Facebook
Ontario 211 Google+

Karen Luttrell comments on Picture Perfect Communications: 10 Tips for NPO Staff & Volunteers Who Want to Take Great Photos

Great tips, especially for holiday parties. I've been a member for 11 years and now consider it to be a lifelong commitment. Here's why:

1) Toastmasters (TM) teaches you how to be a better speaker/presenter. But it's far more than that. It teaches you how to be a better leader and a better listener. Those are essential skills that translate to many aspects of our lives.

2) Toastmasters themselves are generally fun, upbeat people who are generous with their knowledge. I ALWAYS learn something at every Toastmasters mtg I attend. And I always have a good time. What could be better than that?

To find a club near you, go to: http://www.toastmasters.org. You will find clubs that meet in the morning, at noon, at dinner time and in the evening. You will find clubs with various personalities. Find the one that best suits your needs by attending a few. Most clubs will welcome you as a guest 3x before expecting you to join. Take advantage of that option and shop around. I guarantee you. It will be one of the best decisions you've ever made.

Victoria comments on Share Your Passion for the Cause: Three Resources for Improving Presentation Skills

Hi Karen - the biggest thing I've been trying to remember to do is not cross my arms across my chest all the time - as it can come across as closed or even slightly hostile (really I just don't know what to do with my arms!) I find it hard to remember to do - I start crossing my arms and then quickly uncross them. It is a work in progress.

Karen Luttrell comments on Share Your Passion for the Cause: Three Resources for Improving Presentation Skills

Hi Victoria. I too am not fond of speaking in front of a group of people, but have had to get used to it. Another good resource is You Say More Than You Think by Janine Driver. I had to opportunity to hear her speak at conference last spring. She presented some useful tips on how to interpret body language and how, by being aware of what your body language is saying, you can use it to reinforce your message.
